Project Hawk to Be Released, Finally

IBM is expected to announce Hawk at the IBM Information on Demand conference on October 15-20.  IBM has delayed the Hawk release for almost three years.  Ascential Software first unveiled plans for Hawk in late 2003 with plans to deliver the product in late 2004.  The timeline slipped, and IBM ended up acquiring Ascential Software in March 2005.  According to industry sources, IBM took a look at Hawk and decided it needed to make some significant changes to bring it up to IBM’s standards.  Ascential’s management team had built up the company through a series of acquisitions, and the products were not at all integrated.  According to sources close to IBM, IBM has re-architected much of Hawk to tightly integrate the functionality from these different acquisitions and from other IBM technologies.  It is also expected that IBM replaced the application server in Hawk and the database underpinning the metadata engine with IBM products.
